tours/excursions
We are based in the coastal town of Ambalangoda. Ambalangoda has a history embedded in traditional Sri Lankan arts and crafts. It has been home to traditional mask makers for generations. Our accommodation is located within walking distance from the mask carving workshops and we will get the opportunity to see traditional carvers at work. You will also see these masks feature in the "low country" rituals. Our hotel is located on the beach, just out of town and you can spend your afternoons and weekends relaxing in our garden by the pool or take an adventurous stroll through the town centre and beyond.
Wander through the town streets and experience a typical authentic Sri Lankan town. Explore the local markets and haggle good naturedly with the traders. Discover the local fresh food stalls and the seafood markets. Nature lovers can visit the nearby turtle sanctuary or take a boat ride through the Madu river estuary and visit the cinnamon islands.
We hold our dance lessons and training in the community hall at the local temple. The Rajamaha Vihara Temple is one of the ancient monasteries where original Buddhist teachings were held and propagated through the south west of Sri Lanka. The shrine room is around 800 years old and still holds the original stone markings and frescoes.
Ambalangoda is situated on the train line running from Colombo to the town of Galle. Galle is an hour and a half away by train and 45 minutes by car. Galle is home to the world heritage listed Galle Fort where the old world charm of the Dutch colonial era is preserved.
Heading further south from Galle you will some across Unawatuna and Mirrissa where you can spend the weekends surfing, diving and relaxing by the beach.
