Sri lanka Study Tour 2017
Dates: 2 to 15 April 2017
Join Ray and Kanchana on their beautiful island as they introduce you to the new world of Afro Lankan Drumming and Dance.
Immerse yourselves in the sounds, sights and flavours of Sri Lanka as you play traditional drums from Africa and Sri Lanka and have fun learning intricate traditional dances.
Participants of all levels from beginner to advanced will be catered for in both drumming and dance classes.
So...even if you have never drummed or danced before come along and try it out while relaxing in our beautiful surrounds.
The lessons will be run by Ray and Kanchana who will teach you the Afro Lankan Drumming rhythms. Sri Lankan master drummer Karunaratne Bandara and his drummers and dancers will teach you the traditional Sri Lankan drums and dance. Bandara is Kanchana's teacher and in addition to being a performer is also Professor of Aesthetic studies at the University of Colombo. He is regarded as an authority on traditional Sri Lankan drumming and dance.
There will also be cultural performances, cooking demonstrations, visits to museums, traditional mask making workshops and other activities organised for tour participants. The performances will feature master musicians, dancers, puppeteers, mask makers and other artists. These artists will perform for us and share their culture with us.
Family and Friends:
This tour is going to be a lot broader in scope than just study of music and will be suitable for your family member/friends to come along and enjoy themselves as well. You can bring your non drumming/dancing partners or friends who can also participate in the classes if they wish or just have a holiday on the beach and enjoy the cultural activities provided by us.
The accommodation is right on the beach, with a beautiful garden that opens onto the beach. The workshops will be held in the garden by the pool. (Pool bar will be firmly shut during classes.)
The Hotel has twenty rooms with most of them on the Ocean side. Four rooms are on the other side. We can accommodate singles, doubles and families (3 and 4 to a room).
We have decided to allocate rooms on a first come first serve basis so if you want a room on the ocean side then send in an expression of interest as soon as you receive this.
Hear what the participants think about the tour...

Ambalangoda is home to a number of traditional arts that even pre date the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and is an ideal location for the tour. (Not too touristy but with good facilities). It is also close to the historic Dutch Fort of Galle and not far from the amazing beach of Unawatuna.
